We may not have the manners
of our Southern fellows
but there is no monopoly
on regional welcome
hearty are our meals
conversation, direct and simple
silence, a comfortable companion
kindness, restrained but instant
working people, guileless people
who'd give you the coat off their back
and stop to help you change a flat
who say what they mean
and mean what they say.
A people who, when trouble comes, they stay.
