'The Debt' is a movie about three Israeli spies who go into East Berlin to track down and capture a Nazi war criminal. The story is told from 1997 in a series of flashbacks to 1966. There's a twist of course which you can see coming a mile away. The acting is good but the story and the script leave something to be desired. Some of the characters don't really make sense or you don't get a fully formed idea of who they are or why they do what they do. The cast is amazing but you just wish they had better material. It was great to see CiarĂ¡n Hinds in the film but he only had about 7 minutes of screen time total. The twist is predictable and the ending leaves a lot to be desired. You leave unsatisfied with a "huh" feeling. It's not clear what the movie is actually trying to say.
Rent it.
